1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
1 cup sorghum molasses
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 egg
5 cups flour
2 teaspoons soda
1 tablespoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Cream sugar, shortening and sorghum. Add egg and buttermilk. Mix well. Mix soda and vinegar together. Set aside. Mix 4 cups flour, salt, ginger and cinnamon together. Then add the dry mixture to the egg mixture, adding more flour to make a soft dough. Now add soda-vinegar mixture. Mix well. Drop by small spoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheet. Press out thin with fingers dipped in flour or with fork. Bake 10 minutes in 350 degree oven. Best served warm.
