1/3 cup crisco
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs separated
1 1/2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2/3 cup milk
===apple icing===
3/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons water
1 egg white
1 medium sized apple granulated into pulp
Lemon juice
Blend the crisco, sugar, and egg yolks together. Sift the dry ingredients together and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture. Fold in one egg white whipped stiff and transfer to two greased layer cake pans. Bake in a moderately hot oven (375 degrees) until firm in the center and brown on top (about 25 minutes). Put together and cover with apple icing. Apple icing; place sugar, water, egg white and apple pulp in the top of a double broiler. Place over hot water. Cook, beating the mixture constantly until thick, then add juice of one lemon, and continue beating over hot water until fluffy and thick enough to spread (about 10 minutes).
