Potato Casserole

2 pounds baking potatoes, skinned, shredded
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon salt
2 tablespoons dried, minced onion
1 can cream of chicken soup
2 cups sour cream
2 cups cheddar cheese, grated
1/4 cup butter
2 cups can french fried onions

Preheat oven 350 degrees. Combine potatoes, 1/2 c butter, salt, onion, soup, sour cream, and cheese. Put into a greased 9x13" baking dish, spreading to full. Combine 1/4 cup butter with the crushed french fried onions and sprinkle on top. Bake 1-1/4 hrs.
