Never Fail Cake and Frosting

2 eggs
3/4 cup cocoa
1 cup shortening
2 cups flour
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring
2 teaspoons soda
2 cups sugar
1 cup hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt

Frosting:
1 cup sugar
4 tablespoons cocoa
4 tablespoons evaporated milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring

Place ingredients in large mixing bowl; do not mix until all are in bowl. Mix for 2 minutes at low speed. Place in two 8 or 9-inch layer pans. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.


Frosting: Put all ingredients except vanilla in heavy skillet over low heat; stir until melted. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat, add vanilla. Stir, spread on cake.
