Butter Cake

1/2 pound margarine
1 3/4 cups sugar
5 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
1 teaspoon butter flavoring
1 teaspoon rum flavoring
2 cups sifted flour

Butter cake icing:
1/2 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon rum flavoring


Cream margarine thoroughly; add sugar gradually. Add an egg at a time; mix well. Add flavorings. Add sifted flour, a small amount at a time; blend well. Pour batter into greased and dusted 10-inches stem pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.


Butter cake icing: Bring water and sugar to a boil. Cool; add flavoring. Use pastry brush and apply to warm cake.
