Applesauce Chocolate Cup Cakes

1/2 cup butter (or margarine)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate, grated
1 1/4 cups applesauce


Cream together butter (or margarine) and sugar until light. Add egg; beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, baking powder and allspice. Add chocolate. Add flour mixture alternately with applesauce, beating well each time. Fill paper-lined cupcake pans two-thirds full. Bake in 375 degree oven 20 minutes or until done.
